Stand Up in the Park

It’s here! Cardiff Amnesty have unveiled their new poster for Stand Up in the Park 2018.

At a meeting on Monday evening the Cardiff Amnesty International group were busy planning their summer campaign in support of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and her daughter, Gabriella, who have been imprisoned in Iran for over two years.

Cardiff Amnesty International and Cardiff Open Air Theater Festival have joined forces to hold a second stand-up comedy night to highlight this continuing injustice. An evening of comedy in support of human rights, what could be better?

Nazanin’s Story

Nazanin was returning to the UK on the 3 April 2016 after a family holiday when she was detained by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. She was sentenced to five years for secret reasons. Her daughter Gabriella, then only 22 months old, was left stranded in Iran with her grandparents.

The intervention by the Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, in November 2017 raised the profile of this injustice and yet still Nazanin has not been released.

Stand Up in the Park

The second “Naz Night” of comedy at Cardiff Open Air Theatre Festival on Sunday 24 June will feature superb comics from the professional circuit, compered once again by the outstanding Clint Edwards.

Cardiff Amnesty International and the Cardiff Open Air Theater Festival are also asking people  to share their favourite jokes – or just something that makes them laugh or smile – on the 24 June using hashtags #ChooseLaughter and #FreeNazanin in support of Nazanin and her family.

Stand Up in the Park takes place in Sophia Gardens on Sunday 24 June at 8.00pm with a bar from 6.30pm. Tickets are £16.00 and are available here.

Please help us spread the word by circulating news of this event. You can also take action today by signing the petition here calling for Nazanin’s release.
