Write for Rights 2020

We are delighted to announce our annual Write for Rights evening taking place virtually on Monday 14th December at 7.30pm.

Every year, the Cardiff Amnesty International Group encourages you to write messages of support to people around the world who are suffering injustice. What could be better than posting a card or letter to just some of the millions of men, women, children rising against injustice – and paying a heavy price as a consequence.

This year our Write for Rights evening is taking place online as a result of COVID-19. It is going to look a little different, for a start, we have teamed up with our friends in the Monmouth Amnesty International Group who will be joining us for an evening of campaigning and baking!

Our focus will remain the world’s largest human rights campaign but to make things a bit more interactive this year we will also be hosting the “Great Amnesty Mince Pie” competition. Alongside campaigning for human rights we will be asking those who attend the Write for Rights event to bake and decorate mince pies with a human rights theme. That’s right, mince pies with a social conscience!

Perhaps you fancy writing out the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in royal icing or sculpting your shortcrust Christmas treats to resemble Kate Allen, Director of Amnesty International UK. Why not let your imagination run wild!

In preparation for the event please download the campaign booklet here. On the night you will also need notepaper and envelopes or greetings cards (preferably secular cards) and a pen.

A very warm welcome is extended to everyone.

To be sent a link to the online meeting just email Owen at amnesty.cardiff@btinternet.com
